Dialogue of cultures and civilizations has several basic goals: laying the ground for peaceful, constructive debate among nations, providing a context in which civilizations can learn from each other’s strengths and weaknesses, replacing fear, blame and prejudice with reason, fairness and tolerance, and facilitating a dynamic exchange of experiences among culture, religions and civilizations.

To achieve these basic goals, the Institute pursues the following objectives:

• Elucidation and promotion of the culture of dialogue and related concepts in Iran, the world of Islam and throughout the world
• Elucidation and promotion of the principles, requisites and approaches of dialogue among civilizations and cultures at both national and international levels
• Elucidation and promotion of the idea of dialogue among religions as the foundation of great civilizations and the anchor of peace, humanity, morality and spirituality
• Creation and development of the capacity for dialogue among cultures and civilizations, based on the cultural and historical aspects of Iran and Islam
•  Elucidation of Islam’s negotiative approach, and reducing misinterpretations and misunderstandings in the world of Islam and at the international level
• Encouragement of dialogue-based conflict resolution within the World of Islam
• Development of national and international strategies for dialogue on issues regarding the world, society and humankind
• Resolution of civilizational, cultural and social tensions and disputes in the world
• Resolution of disputes among countries, groups, societies and governments through dialogue

o       Cultural and scientific research in the area of dialogue among civilizations and cultures, specifically between Islam and the West

o       Identification of obstacles, pathology of the process of dialogue among civilizations, and extensive efforts to create and establish active relations and mechanisms for interaction among civilizations

o       Establishment of scientific, cultural and educational associations and centers for the advancement of the idea of dialogue among civilizations and cultures, specifically between Islam and the West

o       Establishment and expansion of national, regional and international relations for the promotion of the concept and culture of dialogue

o       Promotion of international policies and strategies, especially those approved by the UN and UNESCO, for the realization of dialogue among cultures and civilizations in the different aspects of human and social life

o       Reinforcement and organizing of the relations among governmental and non-governmental institutions and networks involved in dialogue among civilizations at both national and international levels

o       Promotion of the culture of tolerance and fairness, and providing assistance in the development of the process of understanding and critiquing cultures and civilizations both internally and externally

o       Promotion of the idea and the culture of peace and justice, aiming at peaceful coexistence and prevention of the violation of the rights of others

o       Identification and elucidation of the common grounds and issues among cultures and civilizations with the intention of reducing tensions and conflicts

o       Provision of support for intellectuals, artists and researchers as well as the idea of dialogue in different areas at both national and international levels

o       Elucidation and promotion of dialogue methods and models nationally and internationally
